Impact Of Ansett Crisis
19th September 2001
Webjet today announced a substantial increase in average day's site sessions and dollar value transactions following the Ansett crisis.
Commenting, Webjet's Managing Director, David Clarke, said "Average site sessions from Friday 14th through to and including yesterday, Tuesday 18th, have been approximately 3,500 per day, which represents an increase of approximately 40% on average daily site sessions during the month of August. The dollar value of transactions processed in the same period has increased to approximately $36,000 from an average of $29,000 and, as we note, the five day period under measurement includes Saturday and Sunday which are historically relatively quiet Internet days. On two days in the period subsequent to the strike, the dollar value of business transacted has reached approximately $45,000, with site sessions on the Friday exceeding 5,000."
"Webjet considers that this represents clear evidence of the service values and the ease of access provided by our web site. In an environment where passengers are trying to organise alternative arrangements, we are in a position to provide transparency of access to all of the Qantas flights, schedules and prices without telephone queue delays and it makes it vastly easier for passengers to compare alternative arrangements and effectively place themselves in far greater control of the situation".
