30th June 2010

Following the installation of some automated analysis software, Webjet has uncovered further instances where the Webjet trade mark and derivatives has been hijacked by a series of competitors within Google adwords.

Commenting, Webjet Managing Director David Clarke said:

"Whilst we appreciate that some of this may be inadvertent due to an advertiser's failure to negatively match derivatives, we nevertheless view the matter with extreme concern and indicate that Webjet will not tolerate any form of brand hijacking. Our trade mark is one of our principle assets and regardless of cost, it will be defended through all appropriate channels.

We have today uncovered a couple of serial offenders and we have instructed our solicitors, Minter Ellison in Melbourne, to initiate without notice appropriate proceedings including the pursuit of damages where considered appropriate.

We give clear notice that any further breaches of our trade mark will result in action without notice and we suggest that all Google advertisers pay particular attention to this issue.
